Irh Musici – Hans Leo Hassler This very famous piece for 6 voices (not surprising given the words are full of merriment) is also found in Hassler’s “Lustgarten” of 1601. Here it is reproduced as a 4 voice organ piece with a Vox Humaine registration using Kontakt 4 & Sonar 8.5. I have employed the practice of diminution, which is a form of melodic embellishment and ornamented intabulation, common when rendering Italian vocal music of this period on polyphonic instruments. See Giralomo dalla Casa (1584) & Giovanni Bassano (1591) for important treatises on this practice. It can be interesting to compare it against the original vocal versions also found on YouTube. The middle Chorale Prelude BWV 641, one among the three ornamental compositions in “Das Orgelbüchlein”, denotes an upward embellishment of french character (as already was the case with Georg Böhm’s “Vater unser in Himmelreich”). The accompanimental motive is drawn from chorale melody. As it in some extent happens to “Liebster Jesu…” BWV 731, “Wenn wir in höchsten Nöten sein” is not a promenade along a beautiful lake side; it is a prayer that comes from deep inside the soul. In it, all the voices do precisely the same: they pray, in a kind of “De Profundis Clamo ad Te” through the wonderful inspiration of Bach.

Igor Flach & LausitzBlues Live im Real-Music-Club Lauchhammer 2007. Hier ein Ausschnitt aus der gleichnamigen CD mit dem Titel Rollin`and Tumblin. Eine schöne und würdige Erinnerung an einen begnadeten Musiker, die in Form dieser CD nicht nur den damals Anwesenden gefallen dürfte.
